Inside the Pacuare River Canyon: Days 4 and 7

DAY 4

After a morning river shuttle from Tortuguero, we will have lunch and then head to the Pacuare River. We will immediately encounter class II and III rapids for the first eight miles.

The river is absolutely beautiful and completely remote. It is often considered one of the top-ten whitewater rivers in the world, and rightfully so. There are countless rapids, lots of tributaries to explore, and the canyon is full of wildlife. When you aren't paddling, take a chance to look around - it's not often one can go rafting in January and be so warm!

Home for the next three nights is at the private jungle lodge, which is situated on the river-right bank and overlooks the beautiful canyon. Imagine a tree house with king-sized beds, a full kitchen and bar, and a complete plumbing system: that's what the lodge is.

One of the more incredible things about the lodge is that everything was brought in by raft. There is no road into the lodge, so every material that was used to construct it was floated down by oar boat.

You'll sleep well with a full stomach and the sound of the river running by your window.

On to DAY 6 -->> (canopy tour and hiking)

DAY 7

Today we hop back into the rafts and run the Pacuare River's largest rapids before reaching take-out. Roughly 10 miles of pure-whitewater within a beautiful canyon will leave a lasting smile on your face.
