On Horseback in the Pacuare River Canyon: Day 5


10-Day Itinerary:

Day 1:
 Arrive in San Jose.
Day 2:
 Tortuguero rain forest kayaking.
Day 3:
 Tortuguero rain forest kayaking and exploring Tortuguero.
Day 4:
 Transfer from Tortuguero. Launch on the Pacuare River.
Day 5:
 Horseback riding in the Pacuare Canyon.
Day 6:
 Canopy tour and hiking.
Day 7:
 Pacuare River rafting to take-out, transfer to Fortuna.
Day 8:
 Safari tour, hanging bridges, natural hot springs.
Day 9:
 Morning hike to Arenal Volcano. Transfer back to San Jose.
Day 10:
 Depart San Jose.

DAY 5

After breakfast we'll take a short hike upstream and cross the river. Our horses will be waiting and soon we'll be climbing up the canyon on horseback. Spectacular views and scenery await us.

Once at the ridgeline, we'll head over to an old ranch where a local re-forestation project is taking place. Here, you will have a chance to partake in the project, plant your own tree, and learn how to fish the old fashioned way (you'll see once you get there).

Lunch is at a local's home and you will get a taste of this fantastic culture. Having completed a loop, we'll drop the horses off and make our way back down to the river, where you can spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing at the lodge (why not try out a hammock?) or in the nearby tributary swimming underneath waterfalls.
